Universal Design for Learning

Inspired by my Internship at CAST

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) was created by CAST: The Center for Applied Special Technologies. UDL is based on the Universal Design, the concept of designing accessible environments for people with disabilities before building the curriculum rather than trying to add supports after the fact. By making the curriculum accessible to learners with disabilities, we make the curriculum available for all learners. UDL is about making learning flexible for each learner.
The guidelines are categorized in three principles, (1. Multiple Means of Representation, 2. Multiple Means of Action and Expression, and 3. Multiple Means of Engagement). Under the three principles are 3 guidelines for each. I created an icon to represent each principle and guideline.
Here I have tried to make the information about UDL more approachable to educators and non-educators alike. UDL is dense with information and I worked to filter it and make it more available to readers.
